Meat sandwiches, crafted from minced meat triangles, are stuffed with a delicious mix of cooked ham and sweet caciocavallo cheese, creating a stringy, flavorful filling.

They are straightforward to make and visually appealing, making them an ideal main dish paired with seasonal vegetables or roasted potatoes.

The meat mixture used is similar to that of meatballs—moist and soft, perfectly designed to encase a rich yet compact filling.

They can be cooked in the oven or fried in a pan with a bit of oil. For an extra crispy texture, consider double breading or adding herbs or spices to the breadcrumbs.

The filling can also be varied, incorporating different meats like salami, cheeses, or vegetables such as zucchini, spinach, peppers, or mushrooms, allowing for a delightful customization according to your taste preferences.

How to Prepare Meat Sandwiches

Step 1: In a large bowl, combine minced meat with breadcrumbs that have been soaked in milk and squeezed dry.

Step 2: Mix in the eggs, then season with salt and pepper.

Step 3: Add grated cheese and mix briefly.

Step 4: Knead the mixture until it becomes homogeneous.

Step 5: On a sheet of parchment paper, roll out half of the meat mixture into a square about half a centimeter thick.

Step 6: Layer thick slices of ham on the meat, slightly overlapping each slice.

Step 7: Place slices of caciocavallo cheese over the ham.

Step 8: Cover with the remaining meat mixture, spreading it evenly to cover the filling.

Step 9: Firmly press the meat to form a well-compacted square, smoothing out any irregularities.

Step 10: Coat the base of the meat square with breadcrumbs.

Step 11: Carefully turn the meat square over and breadcrumb the other side.

Step 12: Cut the meat square into four triangles by making two diagonal cuts.

Step 13: Bread the freshly cut sides of each sandwich.

Step 14: Arrange the meat sandwiches on a parchment-lined and slightly oiled baking pan.

Step 15: Drizzle the sandwiches with oil, and season with salt and pepper. Bake at 180°C (356°F) for about 20 minutes.

Step 16: Remove from the oven and serve the meat sandwiches hot.

Storage Tips for Meat Sandwiches

Meat sandwiches can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Ensure they are well covered with plastic wrap to maintain freshness.

If you prefer to prepare them in advance, you can freeze the sandwiches before cooking.

However, make sure to use fresh ingredients if you plan to freeze them to ensure the best quality and safety when reheated.
