A red kitchen full of energy

Red is an energetic color very suitable for convivial environments, such as the living area and the kitchen.

However, it is also a difficult shade to use, precisely because of its strong personality, so it is important to know how to dose and match it, whether you use it as an accent note or as the dominant color of the entire room.

Let’s see together how to furnish a red kitchen , using the right combinations!

Red kitchen: yes or no?

If you are a fan of strong and intense colors, a red kitchen is what’s right for you, to bring vitality and energy.

Red is the right color if pastel shades aren’t for you, if you love full, full-bodied tones and want to fill up with energy every day right from breakfast, to face the day with the right spirit.

It is the right choice if you want to give warmth to the environment, have an extra edge every time you cook and unleash creativity for yourself and your loved ones.

It’s easy to love this color, but it’s also difficult to choose it as the main shade for your décor.

Red must be exalted ; if you choose a red structure for the kitchen, the other elements must be characterized by neutral nuances, which leave the red as the protagonist but at the same time soften it.

If you want to use red in the kitchen, the trick you need to take is not to make it completely red. It is a warm and energizing color, but it can be very heavy.

Better to use it only for some portions or choose a contrasting color for the walls. So let’s see how to insert it into the kitchen without overdoing it.

4 ideas to use in a red kitchen

If a total red kitchen is not recommended, how can you use this color in an elegant and non-obvious way? Here you can read five ideas.

1. The walls

If you have chosen a red kitchen, you must harmonize it with the color of the walls. In the case of an environment of limited size we recommend white , which helps you illuminate it and make it seem larger.

If, however, you have a larger space, an interesting solution could be to paint the walls red, scarlet or carmine, and cover them up to a certain height (for example 1.20 metres, 4 feets) with white tiles.

Between the level of the kitchen worktop and that of the wall units and shelves, you can then intersperse white tiles with others decorated with red designs, including food -themed ones, such as cherries or strawberries.

Alternatively, an exposed red brick wall, or wallpaper that simulates exposed brick, is perfect for an industrial or country-style kitchen.

2. A household appliance

If, however, you just want to add a red detail to your kitchen and you like the vintage style of the Fifties, choose a piece of furniture that has become a real cult: the red vintage refrigerator, which will make your kitchen a temple of retro elegance.

If you want to complete the look, place some prints of old advertisements next to it, or a reproduction of a pop art painting, to give the room an original and unique look.

3. The furniture doors

If you like DIY and at the same time the budget available to you for renovating the kitchen is not very high, you can renovate what you already have available.

Do you have a slightly dated wooden kitchen? Repaint the furniture doors in vermilion red, to give a country and vintage touch to the whole room.

You can also repaint them only partially, alternating them with others in white. Or, again, buy a white and red adhesive covering for the tiles.

4. Red details

Are you still not sure that red in the kitchen is for you and are you afraid that this intense and bright shade might bore you? You can start by adding just a few details. Some idea?

  • red textiles, such as curtains, tablecloths, tea towels;
  • plates, bowls and baskets placed exposed on the shelves, or pots for aromatic plants;
  • red knobs for wooden furniture;
  • stools or chairs around a natural wood or white dining table

What colors to combine with a red kitchen?

White is the most popular color as a contrast in a red kitchen, because it gives it brightness by softening the energy of the red.

In addition, we recommend steel appliances, touches of gray and light wood furniture such as fir.

Pay attention to the contrast with black, which is very strong and not recommended if natural lighting is not sufficient.

The temptation of a red and black kitchen with shiny surfaces may seem like a very modern and minimal choice, but it risks becoming excessive and unpleasant.

The elegant and more delicate alternative to red and black is a red with orange shades combined with anthracite grey.

Red in cherry, coral and amaranth tones can be happily combined with light wood tones, and your kitchen will immediately take on an air country.

Don’t want to give up strong contrasts? Then choose magenta and combine it with blue and purple, as long as the kitchen is very bright and the walls remain white.
