8 stylish vases to make yourself

Homemade vases are perfect gifts – for yourself and for others. Because they are easy to implement, they are impressive. And the materials you need are easy to come by. Eight DIY ideas that can be achieved without much effort.

1. Flower vase made of copper pipe.

Do you love giving flowers as a gift or would you like to give a gift to someone who has a weakness for special flower arrangements? Then include the flower vase at the same time. You can find most of the ingredients for this in any hardware store: a copper pipe with a pipe cutter and some hot glue. To do this, get two test tubes from the pharmacy or craft store. Saw the pipe into small pieces and use a ruler to align the elements for stability. Once the pieces have been glued together, place individual delicate flowers in the glass tubes. Complete! Or you can put candles in the pieces of pipe.

2. Glass and concrete vase

Concrete is a popular material – even in small formats. For this glass vase with a concrete base, all you need is concrete casting compound, a drinks carton as a mold and a small glass bottle. That's how it's done:

  1. First you need to prepare the mold. To make filling the outer mold easier, the beverage carton should be shortened to the desired height. If you grease the surface with a little cooking oil, the object will come out of the mold more easily later.
  2. Then fill it with the concrete mixture mixed according to the instructions on the package and then press the empty glass bottle into the still soft mixture. To ensure that nothing shifts, you should secure the bottle to the box with adhesive tape.
  3. After two to three days, the object will be completely hardened and you can easily remove the beverage carton.

Tip: Concrete casting compound is practical and works well for smaller vases. If you are planning larger objects or want to start series production, it is much cheaper to mix the concrete yourself from cement and quartz sand. However, it then takes much longer to harden.

3. A stylish folding vase.

Attention origami fans! This sculptural vase is a folded work. The flowers themselves are in a simple glass bottle. Around it, a covering with a geometric, three-dimensional pattern is created from solid, multi-folded paper.

4. DIY flower wall holder.

For this creative wall decoration you need the right tools (scissors, hammer, screwdriver) and a few building materials: square wooden boards, picture hangers, small screws, mason jars and leather strap.

5. Glass bottles with a new coat of paint.

You can convert empty wine bottles into great vases in no time. First, you should remove any adhesive residue and label residue. The bottles must be dry and free of grease before they are ready for the color shower.

Decorated with spray paint in matt white and glitter spray, the bottles look wonderfully spring-like. To cleanly separate the two colored areas from each other, cover the edges with masking tape. Also remember to place newspaper or cardboard underneath when spraying.

6. Elegant vases in gold.

For this attractive table decoration, similar to the previous model, you will need empty glass bottles or simple drinking glasses, masking tape, gold spray paint (which is suitable for glass) and a base.

7. A vase made of Viennese wickerwork.

Viennese wicker not only enhances seating furniture, but also beautiful flowers! For this vase variant you need a piece of Viennese braid from the roll. You can get the material at hardware stores in different colors from light to dark. All you need is a glass, masking tape and kitchen twine. Then you can get started.

8. Old light bulbs as hanging vases.

To make these spectacular little vases, you'll need to be careful (and, best of all, wear safety glasses in case something goes wrong).

Hold the bulb with gloves or a cloth. Then carefully cut off the lower end of the screw socket with pliers or a cutter and remove it along with the inner part of the bulb hanging from it. A metal wire is used for hanging: Wrap a small piece of wire tightly around the screw socket, and then attach a longer piece of wire to two sides.
